Vickie Milazzo Institute Ranks 3rd Among Houston's "Top 25 Woman-Owned Businesses”

The Houston Business Journal has named Vickie Milazzo Institute as one of Houston's "Top 25 Woman-Owned Businesses" based on total revenue. Among privately held, 100% woman-owned firms in Houston, Vickie Milazzo Institute occupies third place in revenue. This prestigious award was bestowed on founder and president Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD during the August 24, 2007 awards gala in Houston.

In addition to the "Top 25" award, Vickie Milazzo Institute also ranked 19th among the "Top 50 Fastest-Growing Woman-Owned Businesses" based on percentage of growth.

Both recognitions are momentous in the nation's fourth largest city since there are more than 185,000 privately held, woman-owned firms in Houston. “This year, Houston’s top woman business owners have offered us truthful and valuable insight into the challenges and rewards of running their own companies. Many discovered the path to success through trial and error, innovative leadership or by following good, sound advice,” said John C. Beddow, publisher of Houston Business Journal.

“No problem that entrepreneurs encounter in business hasn’t already been solved by someone else,” Vickie said. “That advice motivated me to seek out and learn from people more successful than I was. It also instilled confidence in me to remember that if somebody else can do it, I can too.

"My biggest reward," she added, "is being able to positively influence so many nursing careers and witness the astonishing changes in their lives as a result of the CLNC® Certification Program. This honor confirms my passion and the dedication of my staff for what we do."

Vickie Milazzo Institute is the oldest and largest legal nurse consulting education company in the U.S., and has trained over 14,000 RNs to be Certified Legal Nurse ConsultantsCM. Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD, was honored by Inc. along with the Entrepreneur of the Year and nine other national newsmakers. Recognized as the pioneer of the legal nurse consulting profession, she turns traditional hospital RNs into entrepreneurs.

Vickie was one of thousands of entrepreneurs from all over the U.S. nominated in Inc. magazine's "Entrepreneur of the Year" competition. Her story and photo, along with space entrepreneur Bill Rutan's and movie star Mel Gibson's, can be seen on the Inc. website where Vickie is honored as a Top 10 Entrepreneur.

"As a nurse for 30 years, I've seen a lot," wrote South Carolina RN Sherryl Scott on the Inc. website. "Vickie promotes nursing even more than Florence Nightingale could have dreamed."

Inc. magazine editor John Koten said the Top 10 Entrepreneurs are, "dynamic company builders who seized opportunities that others missed, worked tirelessly, and brought their dreams to fruition."

"I love training other RNs to be innovative entrepreneurs," says Milazzo. "If nurses can save lives in the middle of the night with no doctor in sight, they can also use that drive and decision-making ability to become winning entrepreneurs."

Selected from among the thousands of nurses in the South Central region, Vickie's achievements were heralded in October at NurseWeek's gala ceremony attended by more than 200 nurses and their supporters.

"It was the first time I've ever nominated anyone for this award," says Carol Hartwig, RN, MS, CNAA, CLNC. "I don't know another nurse who has done so much for nursing on her own. She has helped and guided thousands of RNs as they discover a new direction for their nursing skills and experience. In my 34 years of nursing, I've never met anyone else who so truly deserves this recognition."

NurseWeek's print publications and nursing website reach over 800,000 nurses.

Innovator Vickie L. Milazzo Awarded Most Innovative Small Business

Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD was recognized as the Most Innovative Small Business because she pioneered a new profession for RNs, the profession of legal nurse consulting.

The innovation award and Vickie's story were featured in Priority magazine, the publication that office tech giant Pitney Bowes distributes to 800,000 small business owners worldwide. 800,000 Americans (who are successful themselves) are now educated about legal nurse consulting.

Neal J. Metviner, president, PB Direct says, "of the numerous nominations we received, this business stood out as both exemplary and inspirational."

"Many nurses believe the only way to apply their nursing skills is in a traditional hospital setting," says Vickie. "But RNs possess valuable skills that also make them successful consultants."

Vickie continues, "A large part of my business is training other RNs to be innovative themselves. Innovation isn't just the initial great idea. It is daily action. To innovate, they must constantly question, probe and challenge every aspect of their business, its processes and systems.

"If nurses can save lives in the middle of the night with no doctor in sight, they can also use that drive and decision-making ability to operate successful consulting practices."
